Be Trusting Not Gullible

In the Igbo culture it is believed that when the bunch is to be punished for one's misbehaviour then the saying  -" when one finger dips into an oil, it smears all other fingers" - applies.

I was into a business negotiation with an intended client, who had been in contact with the parent company and was redirected to the closest point of contact here in Nigeria - in which case is me - the agent.

The discussion was going smoothly and he asked eagerly "how do I pay? In Naira or US Dollars?" This was after the prices had been given to him. I answered " you pay in US Dollars and into a Domicilliary Account here in Nigeria". Oh! what a response I got! "I am no more interested, I don't want to do anything with Nigeria 419ers and I will prefer buying from Dubai, it is safe." How that broke me!

One Nigerian has done this by diiping into the oil and it has now smeared all other genuine Nigerians. This client was prepared to put every trust in a person he has never seen and probably will not in his life time than having anyhing to do with a person he will definately come in contact with whenever he wanted.

Anyway, the whites will tell you that "he that kills by the sword, dies by the sword" but the Igbos will tell you that "he that kills with sword, will not allow a sword be taken past behind him"

So, in truth I wouldn't blame the client because once beaten, twice shy but I will advice that one should always weigh every option before wrongfully doubting one. It is for you to be trusting but never gullible.
